This self-portrait was taken with an Indigo Systems Phoenix camera. The sensor is a large format (640 by 512 pixels) indium antimonide focal plane array with a 3-5 micron bandpass cold filter. The image was filtered with an unsharp mask using Adobe Photoshop 5.5. This filter removes some of the fixed-pattern noise in the focal plane array. The cold nose is due to a mild case of frostbite I got while working at the South Pole station in Antarctica on the AMANDA project.
